Welcome to MPI’s Suicide Prevention Series. The following programs have been developed in concert with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and do not require a subscription for viewing. To participate for certification you must be an MPI subscriber. For subscribers, this program is available as an in-service credited program complete with tracking and testing. Module 1 - Law Enforcement & Suicide Investigation

In module one we will begin this program by describing suicide and the five manners of death. We will examine the cause of death and the ruling of suicide by the medical examiner. We will discuss common methods of suicide, the presence of weapons and suicide notes as well as the primary steps involved in a suicide investigation.

Module 2 - Law Enforcement & Suicide Investigation

In module two, we will discuss the systematic investigation, evidence collection and searching the scene. We will discuss the importance of focusing on the body as the primary piece of evidence in your investigation. We will examine the three major aspects of victim history, medical, psychiatric and social history. This module will also cover the seven frequent mistakes in suicide investigation and how to avoid them.

Module 3 - Law Enforcement & Suicide Investigation

In module three we will discuss the investigation report and how to properly document evidence of the case. We will look at interviews and statements and how they may impact your investigation. Lastly we will discuss interacting and assisting the family and other survivors.
